dimensions, of the human experience.
The
Birmingham-Bessemer Youth Ministries Community Center for the Humanities
seeks to foster collaborations between the humanities, social sciences, and
sciences in the belief that the humanities make a unique contribution in
establishing -- through interpretation and conversation -- communities of
interest and climates of opinion.
The Birmingham-Bessemer Youth Ministries Community Center for the
Humanities
advances the humanities through-out The Birmingham-Bessemer Communities and
beyond, by attracting religious leaders, community leader, educators, business
leaders, students, and the public into informed, thoughtful, and civil discourse
on the political, literary, ethical, and aesthetic questions of the day. The
Center’s lectures, panels, workshops, and interdisciplinary seminars encourage
innovative research; illuminate new ideas; foster books and teaching
innovations; and provide a critical forum for understanding what it means to be
human.
The Center is supported by the generosity of individual donors, grants from
private and public foundations, corporate philanthropy, partner universities,
and income from the Center’s endowment
