The Christian Church provides Social Services to the African-American Communities.

Cornel West called the contemporary African-American church "one of the few institutions within a shattered Black civil society that could attempt to project some kind of hope and some kind of meaning" in the face of present and more pervasive nihilsm."  Here are just some of the services that the Christian Community provides:

The Church and Economic Development

“The black church recognizes it has to be in the forefront of economic development,”says C. Eric Lincoln, author of The Black Church in the African-American Experience. “It has become evident that black people are simply going to have to stand on their own feet and the black church, with all of its economic power, can help facilitate that by creating businesses.”

Black churches in America have long been recognized as the most independent, stable, and dominant institutions in black communities. Rev. Charles Adams, Hartford Memorial’s pastor, offered his perspective. “The church needs to concentrate on the business of creating economic institutions,” declared Adams. “The issue is jobs.
