The Swanson Initiative Trust was established to honor the enduring legacy of civic leadership, faith‑based service, and educational excellence embodied by the Swanson family and the Birmingham‑Bessemer community. Its purpose is to nurture youth civic leadership, community engagement, and public service education that strengthen democracy, dignity, and self‑determination among African‑American families and their allies.

Trustee Duties

  • Approve scholarships, fellowships, and civic initiatives.
  • Steward endowments and manage legacy assets.
